    Description

Sentinel Common Components is a SAS® program package which provisions essential information for running distributed SAS® program packages more efficiently. The "common components" refers to software modules that are widely used in a software system to offer frequently needed services, such as data or methods, through a defined interface. In the Sentinel Distributed Database (SDD), Common Components SAS® Code supplies site-specific values for standard macro variables, which are used by Sentinel distributed SAS queries when they are run.  For example, the Common Components SAS® Code provides the location of Sentinel Common Data Model (SCDM) formatted tables, table names, data update versions, and the range of data available. Therefore, the use of the Common Components SAS® Code makes it easier to set up and use Sentinel distributed packages like the Query Request Package (QRP) and the Mother-Infant Linkage (MIL) Quality Assurance Package.  Additionally, using the Common Components SAS® Code in the Sentinel distributed SAS queries simplifies the query process and reduces the chances of errors, like running a query with incorrect data or using the wrong values for the range of data available.
