The Sentinel Distributed Database (SDD) has:
310.8 million cumulative patient identifiers between 2000 and 2018
Of members with medical and drug coverage, there are:
- 70.1 million members are currently accruing new data
- 11.7 billion pharmacy dispensings
- 15.0 billion unique medical encounters
- 48.5 million members with at least one laboratory test result
- 668 million person-years of data
The figure above depicts the number of unique patient identifiers currently enrolled in that year. Each patient identifier represents one member. At least one day of enrollment of medical and drug coverage in the year was required for members to be included in this figure.
The figures above depict the length of enrollment for members in the Sentinel Distributed Database between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2018.
The figure above depicts the percent distribution of members in the Sentinel Distributed Database by geographical region. Regions are mapped according to the Health and Human Services (HHS) Region Descriptions. Roughly 5% of members in the Sentinel Distributed Database are without geographic data and are not represented in this figure.
Age is calculated based on the date the information was pulled from each Data Partner. Therefore, partners with a larger than 1 year lag in data may will have smaller numbers represented in the <1 year age group.
The area above depicts the cumulative number of unique patient identifiers in the Sentinel Distributed Database from 2010 to present. If patients move health plans, they may have more than one patient identifier.
